The Vigo County Area Planning Commission voted to recommend rezoning 2340 and 2350 North 24th Street from R‑1 (single‑family) to M‑1 (light industrial) to allow automobile storage and a tow yard.

Staff told the commission the two parcels include mixed prior zoning and that the owner seeks to bring both parcels into consistent M‑1 classification; staff and the Department of Engineering offered a favorable recommendation provided the petitioner obtains site plan approval and any necessary variances or VZA approval.

Attorney Richard Shagley, representing the property owners, said the property is tucked away amid commercial and manufacturing uses and argued the rezoning would align the parcels with surrounding industrial zoning and bring them into compliance. Shagley asked the commission for a favorable recommendation.

Commissioners asked about the site history and setbacks. Staff noted a site plan was not provided beyond a Beacon printout and that the owner should consult city engineering on setbacks; a variance might be required if lots are not combined.

After discussion, the commission moved and approved a favorable recommendation by voice vote. The recommendation includes conditions for site plan approval by city engineering and VZA/variance approval if necessary before final city action.
