The Cuyahoga County Public Works Procurement and Contracting Committee on March 28 approved Resolution 20250335 to amend prior project limits for the Lee Road reconstruction so the work and waterline replacement extend one block further south from Invermere Avenue to Throckley Avenue in Cleveland and Shaker Heights.
Eric Mack of the county's public works department told the committee the extension is roughly 340 feet and is needed so the project's new waterline can connect at the next manhole. Mack said the pavement change is temporary: the county will place an asphalt wearing surface on the one-block section now and a separate Cleveland project scheduled later will complete a full-depth reconstruction and a multiuse trail on the Cleveland side. "There will be no changes to the cost of the project," Mack said, and confirmed the project funding split remains 80% federal, 10% state, 10% local. He also said NOACA and ODOT have accepted the update.
Members asked about timing and overlap with the Cleveland portion. Mack said the project will be advertised for sale this spring, start construction in 2026 and run about two years, and the Cleveland portion is expected to be sold in 2027, producing an overlap in 2028. He also noted the department aims to minimize rework of recently completed pavement and to coordinate utilities so the road is not opened multiple times.
After questions the committee moved the resolution and approved it by voice vote for favorable reporting to the full council on second-reading suspension.
