The Derry Area SD Board on Tuesday approved a newly proposed policy (09:15) governing booster groups and voted to adopt a narrowly tailored revision to policy 005 limited to the Eastern Westmoreland Community Tech Center (EWCTC) and the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit.

During a policy discussion, a committee representative noted additional revisions to policy 005 may be necessary on legal grounds, but the board approved the version relevant to EWCTC and WIU with the understanding that further reads and potential amendments could follow. The motion to adopt the booster-group policy passed by voice vote.

The district’s policy committee reported it had met on Nov. 18 and reviewed several policy topics including administrative regulations for facility use, pre-employment drug screening, and proposed updates from the PSBA Policy News Network (first-read items included exemptions from instruction and district social media policy). The committee said it will monitor incoming updates and hold a further meeting if needed.

What happens next: The board may revisit policy 005 for additional revisions informed by legal review; the policy committee will schedule follow-up meetings if required and will publish changes through the district’s normal policy-notice channels.
