Austin Orsheriff, planning manager at Gold Coast Transit District, presented the agency’s short-range transit plan and the proposed Route 1 realignment to INCO. He said the SRTP aims to improve weekday peak frequency, increase access to 30‑minute service and improve timed connections at the Oxnard Transit Center.
Orsheriff described the Route 1 proposal: eliminate many neighborhood deviations and operate a more direct alignment so that the 20‑minute frequency north of Bard Road would extend the full length of the route through Oxnard and into Port Hueneme, leaving only the Surfside Loop in Port Hueneme as a loop. "The proposed realignment will extend that 20 minute frequency the entire length of the route through Oxnard down into Port Hueneme," he said.
Gold Coast staff described the agency's $40,000,000 revenue projection for the fiscal year and identified Transportation Development Act (TDA) funds and federal FTA formula funds as principal revenue sources; fares and discretionary grants were also mentioned. The presentation noted the intent to reduce redundant coverage with Route 23 and to add proposed stop locations on J Street to improve directness and connections.
During public Q&A, residents asked about an extension to Channel Islands Harbor and service to Silver Strand Beach. Orsheriff said Channel Islands Harbor service is planned in a later phase (year 3 or 4 of the SRTP) and that fixed-route service to Silver Strand is not currently provided because of limited resources. He also noted real-time information is available through the Go VC bus app and third-party transit apps.
No formal action or vote on the SRTP or the Route 1 realignment was recorded at the meeting; Gold Coast staff said they are working with local jurisdictions on implementation and will continue outreach.
