At its Dec. 4 meeting the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved multiple procurement, budget, and administrative items and adopted a proclamation recognizing a longtime county IT director.
Key actions included:
• Airport construction contract: The board awarded and authorized execution of a contract to MWM Construction Inc. for the Piedmont Propulsion Structural Infill Project at the airport in an amount not to exceed $1,100,768 and authorized the county manager to sign change orders up to $150,000. One commissioner requested additional documentation about MWB (minority/women business) participation and said the winning bidder’s 1.1% commitment fell short of a 10% goal; the contract passed 6–1.
• Turnout gear and vehicles: The board approved purchase of turnout gear for Emergency Medical Services from MES Life Safety LLC in an amount not to exceed $369,491.74 and authorized purchase of three 2026 Chevrolet 2500 crew cab trucks for fire services and the sheriff’s office (total not to exceed $153,495). Both procurements passed unanimously.
• Budget amendment and payments: The board approved an amendment to the FY26 budget appropriating $107,956 of auction surplus proceeds to the motor vehicle and mobile equipment subfund, and authorized quantum meruit payments for two prior‑year invoices totaling $927.04. Votes were unanimous.
• Utility easement for EV charging: The board authorized a utility easement to Duke Energy Carolinas LLC across county property at 201 North Chestnut Street to serve planned county electric vehicle charging stations; unanimous approval.
• Solid waste franchise ordinance and tax listing extension: The board adopted a second reading of an ordinance awarding franchises for residential and small business solid waste collection beginning Jan. 1, 2026, and extended the 2026 tax listing period by 14 days to Feb. 16, 2026; both actions were approved unanimously.
• Proclamation: The commission adopted a proclamation recognizing Gary Kuntz for more than 32 years of service in Management Information Services; Kuntz accepted thanks and the board held a reception.
Several commissioners asked staff for additional documentation on MWB participation for the airport contract and asked that staff ensure good‑faith effort affidavits and disaggregated MWB data be provided for future procurements.
