The governance committee voted to recommend that the full board adopt the Missouri School Boards' Association (MSBA) model calendar policy to align the district’s written policy with state law and current practice. Speaker 6 explained that the district’s written calendar policy was last revised in 1999 and cited that "the state law requires 169" days; the district’s historical calendars had sometimes listed 174 days or other totals that did not match the written policy.

Speaker 6 told the committee MSBA’s model policy includes required elements beyond days and hours — for example, listing snow days and makeup days and accounting for professional development time — and recommended adopting that model so policy and practice are aligned. Speaker 1 moved to recommend that the full board consider adopting the MSBA model policy at the January meeting; Speaker 3 seconded the motion and the committee approved the recommendation.

The committee instructed staff to prepare the model policy for board review so the board can consider and vote on formal adoption at the January meeting. Speaker 6 said staff will submit the draft for discussion at the work session in advance of the January board meeting if timing allows.
