Madera City Council selected Councilmember Rohi Zachariah as mayor pro tem for a one-year term after a staff explanation of the selection criteria and a council motion.

City Clerk Alicia Gonzales explained that under Resolution No. 12-210 the council generally gives priority to members who have not previously held the mayor pro tem position. Staff identified Councilmember Zachariah as meeting that criterion. A councilmember moved to appoint Zachariah and another councilmember seconded the motion. The mayor opened the appointment to public comment; none was offered. The council then voted to approve the appointment unanimously.

Mayor Pro Tem Zachariah was congratulated at the dais. The appointment was processed by minute order as requested by staff; no additional conditions or duties were recorded in the meeting minutes.
