The Madera City Council adopted a resolution authorizing the purchase of a replacement audio-visual (AV) system for the council chambers and a related budget amendment to fund the purchase.
IT Director Gary Price described the proposed AV package: two 75-inch wall-mounted displays, nine PC monitors for council desks, one touchscreen controller for the city clerk, four in-ceiling speakers, two wall-mounted cameras and controller software. Price said the system would improve reliability and camera-microphone syncing that currently causes technical failures during public meetings and can impair public access and recording. He said the purchase would be procured via a CMAS piggyback contract with EKC Enterprises for $56,616.32 and that the IT fund currently had $68,297 available, allowing a budget amendment and carryover to fund the purchase.
Councilmembers asked a clarifying question about whether funds existed (Price confirmed funds are budgeted in IT and simply require an amendment), and the council opened public comment (none was offered). The council then moved and unanimously approved the resolution to purchase the AV system and authorize the budget amendment.
The purchase is contingent on executing the contract with EKC under the CMAS program and on the city completing the budget amendment; staff will proceed with procurement and project scheduling per the city’s procurement rules.
