Trista, representing the library project team, asked the Town Council for a letter of support and introduced the architect’s design for a lower‑level renovation of the town library.

The presentation showed new flooring, relocated circulation that would improve sight lines to the adult and children’s areas, low mobile shelving on casters that can be reconfigured for programs, a new study room, and upgraded lighting and finishes. The plan also calls for improvements to the History Room: built‑in storage, a glass partition to make the room feel more open, video‑conferencing capabilities, and a split‑unit HVAC to let staff control temperature and humidity for the archives.

Council members asked how historical artifacts and club storage would be handled during construction. Trista said the town will move the history collection to the Bell Road boardroom for protection during construction and look into donating or salvaging the original Carnegie checkout desk; she said there is no intention of removing Newburgh‑specific artwork. The architect addressed contractor concerns about the ceiling feature and explained the suspended ceiling will use a drywall grid with limited cutouts so the weight and sprinkler changes would not impose town costs.

No formal council action was required at the meeting; staff said they will meet with the contractor after Thanksgiving to finalize the construction schedule and return with any materials needing council approval.
