The Cabell County Board of Education recognized student author Reese Null during its regular meeting, calling attention to an excerpt of Null’s short story included in the board packet.

A district presenter said Null was nominated by English teachers Marissa Dillon and Kayla Dyer and was selected for the online anthology 5MoreVoices: Generation of West Virginia Creative Authors. The presenter encouraged board members to read the excerpt and congratulated Null on the selection.

Null told the board that family and teachers provided consistent support, citing her mother, grandmother and multiple English teachers who entered her in competitions and critiqued her work. A board member who had read the short story praised Null’s writing and the decision to publish an excerpt in the anthology.

No board action was required for the recognition. The presentation concluded with photographs and brief remarks from board members about the importance of encouraging student writers.
