At the start of the meeting, the mayor’s office presented multiple recognitions. The council read a proclamation commemorating the Aurora Actionaires’ 50th anniversary, reciting founders’ names and noting more than $200,000 in scholarships awarded by the group over five decades. Rebecca Ruffin, identified as the Aurora Actionaires’ vice president, thanked the mayor and group members for the recognition.
Council also recognized the newly formed Aurora chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, noting city staff involvement (Michelle Clark, Katrina Boatwright, LaDonna Carr) and the chapter’s focus on leadership, economic empowerment and health for Black women and girls. Michelle Clark, identified in the meeting as the chapter president, addressed the council and described plans to partner with local stakeholders.
In a third recognition, Mayor and council presented awards of excellence to Asher and Emily Lesniak, students at West Aurora High School, for performing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade; a parent described the students’ intensive week of rehearsals and national experience.
These recognitions were ceremonial and did not include formal policy actions; the mayor’s report concluded with photos and brief remarks from honored guests.
