Guam Legislature presents resolution recognizing Giving Tuesday; youth 'Spark Ambassadors' outline outreach projects
GUAM — The Guam Legislature on Dec. 2 presented Resolution No. 112-38 COR recognizing Giving Tuesday and commending KUAM CareForce, nonprofit partners and the youth Spark Ambassadors for promoting charitable activity across the island.

Vice Speaker Sijus Massey opened the presentation at Guam Congress Hall and said the resolution, described in remarks as sponsored by every senator of the 30th Guam Legislature, honors the global day of giving on 12/02/2025. "We're very proud of KUAM, the KUAM CareForce for really planting the seed of giving," Massey said.

A KUAM CareForce representative thanked the Legislature for the recognition and said KUAM’s giving activities would reach "all 19 villages today." "Here on Guam, where America's day begins, we're kicking off this global movement of kindness and generosity," the representative said.

Youth Spark Ambassadors then described projects they will carry out today. Sarai Dela Cruz, a junior at the Academy of Our Lady of Guam, said she and a senior peer will prepare meals and distribute them to people experiencing homelessness with distribution planned for about 5:30 p.m. "For this Giving Tuesday, my project is in collaboration ... we decided to host a meal outreach for those currently experiencing homelessness," Dela Cruz said.

Nina Kirigua, a junior at Saint John's, described a school-based kindness campaign called "Clip a Compliment," in which clothespins bearing compliments are posted on school posters so students can leave a compliment on a peer's backpack. "Our clothespins are designed with compliments and posted on posters...students can take one and clip it on another's backpack as a small act of kindness," Kirigua said.

Massey also noted traditional holiday drives and events tied to the day, including Salvation Army bell-ringing and food and toy drives, and urged continued donations to sustain holiday food bank needs.

The resolution was presented during the ceremony; no formal vote or roll-call on the resolution is recorded in the supplied transcript. After the presentation, Massey said the Vice Speaker would attend a proclamation at the Governor's Office and closed the remarks from the Guam Congress Hall.

The ceremony brought together KUAM staff, Spark Ambassadors and legislators to highlight local Giving Tuesday events; the Spark Ambassadors' projects will proceed across the island during the day.
