The Committee on Council approved a substitute to an ordinance on second reading that updates section 2-135 of the City of Atlanta Code of Ordinances to modernize the structure and jurisdiction of council standing committees.

An unidentified staff presenter told the committee the substitute is “essentially…a proper alignment and cleanup,” removing references to boards and commissions that no longer exist, consolidating redundant listings and updating office names — for example, to reflect the Office of Film, Entertainment and Nightlife. The staff member said the change was reviewed with the research and policy team, the law department and finance attorneys.

Chair Ishae Collins moved to approve the substitute; the motion was seconded and the committee approved the substitute by a 6-0 vote. The committee recorded the substitute as favorable on second reading and moved the ordinance forward in the council process.
