The Johnson County Board of Commissioners voted Dec. 1 to approve a GovWorks performance and readiness agreement intended to add AI-driven quality assurance to the county's 9-1-1 operations.
Brent, identified in the meeting as the 9-1-1 director, told the board the GovWorks system "is something we wanna add to our quality assurance and training program" and that it would integrate with the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system, the radio system and the phone system. "It can give us a higher volume of quality assurance and automates that whole process," Brent said, adding the output would be used to create "targeted training for our new hires and our existing staff."
One commissioner voiced wariness about artificial intelligence generally during the discussion. Despite that skepticism, a motion to approve the agreement was moved and seconded and the board voted by voice to approve the contract.
The transcript does not specify contract value, contract term, or whether state or federal funding will offset costs. The board's approval moves the agreement forward for execution and local implementation by the 9-1-1 director and relevant county staff.
