Superintendent Haim said Lawton Public Schools is adjusting access at Shoemaker to improve campus security, making the gate off Fort Sill the primary entrance and directing visitors to use that access point.

"Safety is our number 1 issue," Haim said, describing existing measures — fencing and double secure entries — and explaining the gating change will isolate Shoemaker traffic from Central Middle School and Lawton High to ease officer control. He said the gate will remain open except during lockdowns and that the district will notify families with maps and text messages.

Haim said the change aims to reduce the number of cars driving through secure student areas and to make it easier for officers to control movement. He asked families to "work with us" and said the district used security experts when designing the plan.
