The Worthington Public School District received an unmodified (clean) audit opinion for fiscal year 2024–25, auditor Helen Hoefker told the board at the district’s November meeting, and the board voted to approve the audit.
Hoefker summarized fund-level results: general fund revenues were just over $67,072,000 (about 1.4% above budget), general fund expenditures were roughly $59,624,000 (about 5% under budget), and the general fund balance increased by about $7,545,000. Overall governmental fund balances rose by about $6,679,000, driven primarily by the general fund increase. Food service and community service funds had smaller variances (food service down about $189,000; community service down modestly). The capital projects fund recorded small interest income and retainage from a learning center project; debt service showed a reduction to fund balance of roughly $617,000.
Hoefker noted that schools with more than $750,000 in federal grant spending are subject to single-audit requirements and that the audit report includes that coverage. The board moved to accept the 2024–25 audit report (motion by Matt, seconded by Laurie) and approved it by voice vote. Administration said staff will present an updated budget forecast after the new year.
