Officials from No Problem Raceway asked the Assumption Parish Police Jury on Nov. 25 for assistance with road repairs, signage and infrastructure so the track can host a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) national event.

Nelson Hoyos, motorsports director, said the operators have invested nearly $2.5 million over five years to rebuild the facility and have a letter of intent from NHRA for a national event. He told jurors the facility currently hosts several regional and division events and that a national event could attract tens of thousands of spectators and drive hotel, restaurant and related spending in the parish and region.

What they asked for: Hoyos asked the parish to help expedite road repairs on Highway 996 (a state route) and to assist with signage and short‑term repairs to get the facility ready for larger events. He suggested parish staff and jurors help coordinate with DOTD and pursue state or federal grant opportunities (including DRA/EDA match programs) to support necessary infrastructure improvements.

Why it matters: NHRA national events bring major spectator and competitor traffic; the track estimates multi‑year economic benefits if the event is secured and supported by adequate roads and parking. Jurors discussed DOTD timelines and opportunities to seek funding or create temporary operational fixes ahead of longer‑term projects.

Next steps: staff said Highway 996 work is scheduled for letting next September and that the parish will consult with DOTD on interim repairs and signage. No formal funding request was approved at the meeting; jurors agreed to continue coordinating with the track and state partners.
