Jamie Noon, CEO of CASA of the River Region, told the Shepherdsville council on Nov. 24 that CASA provides court‑appointed special advocates for children who have experienced abuse or neglect and that volunteers regularly attend hearings and connect families with services.

Noon said 73 Bullitt County children currently have a CASA volunteer and that about 186 children remain in the system without one. She described flexible training options — including a training scheduled in Bullitt County in 2026 and 1-on-1 training alternatives for people who cannot attend group classes — and urged community members to sign up via CASA’s volunteer page.

Councilmembers praised the program and urged staff to amplify volunteer recruitment through the city’s social media channels. Noon said CASA’s research shows volunteers reduce placement disruptions and help cases reach resolution more quickly.

Next steps: council agreed to circulate information about volunteer training opportunities and to invite CASA back for a spring follow-up.
