At its meeting, the Newton County Commissioners approved several consent and routine items: enrollment in the Texas Association of Counties cybersecurity training program for 2026, correction of the 2026 holiday calendar to show Thanksgiving on Nov. 26–27, approval of a LexisNexis legal-research contract, acceptance of fuel and material bids, and payment of bills.
The cybersecurity training enrollment was described as a state-required program with a low per-person cost (about $4.79 monthly in 2026 as read in the meeting materials). The holiday calendar correction was adopted to fix an earlier date entry.
County staff requested approval of a LexisNexis legal research subscription, citing the county’s need to restore online legal-research access that had been cut during prior budget reductions. The meeting recorded monthly pricing read at the microphone (about $4.79 in 2026, rising to $5.03 in 2027 and $5.29 in 2028 as presented).
The court accepted fuel and material bids after staff described a choice between branded and unbranded fuel suppliers; staff said unbranded fuel (Suncoast) had a lower per-gallon cost despite a higher per-gallon markup. Finally, county payment of bills was approved as presented; meeting materials listed a total of $323,165.37 across funds and accounts.
Each item was moved, seconded and approved by the court during the meeting’s consent and business agenda.
