Lowndes County commissioners unanimously approved a memorandum of agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation to advance a bridge replacement on Jumping Gully Road at Bevel Creek.
Mister McLeod said the project was added to the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program and that GDOT will take the lead on design and construction. "As part of the project, Lowndes County will be responsible for $50,000 towards right away contributions," McLeod said, adding that any unused portion of the contribution will be refunded.
The measure was presented as an item for consideration rather than a formal bid. After brief questions about the project timeline, including whether letting dates could move sooner, McLeod replied that the project is programmed in GDOT's budgets for the stated year and that earlier dates are not currently expected.
The commission moved to approve the MOA and the motion carried with all commissioners voting in favor.
The agreement commits the county to the specified right-of-way contribution and places the project under GDOT oversight through the STIP process; commissioners did not request additional study or amendments to the MOA during the meeting.
