The Sandpoint Arts, Culture, and Preservation Commission reviewed two arts projects during its Nov. 14 meeting: restarting the Cedar Street public‑art project and a potential artistic treatment for a City Beach basketball court scheduled for resurfacing.

Chairwoman Ellie Sesnes and commissioners said they will prepare an RFP for the four Cedar Street bulb‑outs originally intended for sculpture. Sesnes said the project has a dedicated fund established by former mayor Gretchen Heller and noted a modest existing balance; commissioners discussed a preliminary RFP budget in the neighborhood of $15,000 and asked staff to check available funds and confirm whether counsel or other administrative review is needed before issuing an RFP.

Staff reported Parks plans to sealcoat multiple city courts in spring and suggested the City Beach court — which sits in the urban‑renewal area — could receive an artistic topcoat as part of that work, potentially funded through SURA. Jason Will told the commission staff can prepare an RFP for art concepts tied to the resurfacing schedule.

Commissioners emphasized a preference for local artists when feasible but recognized that for large sculptures or installations the call may need to be regional. The commission asked staff to develop draft RFP materials and a recommended geographic scope for outreach ahead of the next meeting.
