The Salt Lake City Board of Canvassers unanimously adopted a resolution certifying the results of the Nov. 4, 2025 municipal general election, the council confirmed in a limited session before its regular meeting.
City Recorder Keith Reynolds read the official summary from Salt Lake County, saying the city had 60,346 active registered voters and 20,305 ballots cast, a turnout of 33.6 percent. Salt Lake City participated in a ranked-choice voting pilot; Reynolds presented the final-phase tallies and announced winners for the contested council districts.
Reynolds said Victoria Petro received 1,664 votes and Steven Otterstrom 1,546 in District 1, declaring Petro duly elected. In District 3, Chris Wharton led with 3,621 votes, and in District 5 Erica Carlson received 4,042 votes. Sarah Young ran unopposed in District 7 and received 3,650 votes.
A motion to adopt the canvass resolution was moved by Council Member Mano and seconded by Council Member Dugan; the presiding chair called for a voice vote and noted the resolution passed unanimously. Newly elected officials will receive certificates of election after the council’s action.
The resolution formalizes the county-provided tallies and begins the administrative steps to issue certificates and finalize transitions for the newly elected council members.
