Agricultural Commissioner Eric Mayberry presented Amador County’s 2024 crop and livestock report to the Board of Supervisors, reporting a countywide production value of $42,347,000 — roughly a 19% increase from the previous year. Mayberry explained the report is compiled annually using numbers reported by farmers and is therefore one year in arrears: producers sometimes do not report harvests immediately, and unharvested acres are not counted.
Mayberry cited higher price and production for some wine grapes and timber production this year after no timber recorded in the prior year; he noted many acres remained planted but unharvested, which affects per-ton price calculations. Supervisors questioned data sources and timber reporting; Mayberry explained the office uses state agency data and producer reports and that reported numbers exclude crops not harvested or sold.
