The Eden Prairie City Council on Nov. 18 accepted a $21,000 donation from the Eden Prairie Lions Club to purchase three automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for city parks.
Parks and Recreation Director Amy Markle introduced the gift, saying the AEDs will be mounted in climate‑controlled cabinets and be accessible year‑round. "We are excited to have the Eden Prairie Lions ... $21,000 that will go to the purchase of 3 AEDs that will go into our parks," Markle said. She noted one AED previously installed at Miller Park had already been used to save a life.
The donation will place AEDs at Round Lake Park, Flying Cloud Fields Park and Purgatory Creek Park, Markle said. Council Member Lisa Toomey moved to adopt a resolution accepting the donation; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Mayor Case praised the partnership between the Lions and city government, saying such contributions "help our tax dollars go further."
Council discussion included a brief background about the Lions Club Foundation and its role in local philanthropy. The resolution was adopted without recorded opposition.
The council did not attach conditions to the gift; staff will proceed with procurement and installation as directed by Parks & Recreation. The council then continued with scheduled awards and reports.
