The Placer Union High School District board voted unanimously on November 16 to approve a five‑year renewal petition for Maidu Virtual Charter Academy, following a public presentation outlining program offerings, enrollment growth and student satisfaction data.
Maidu staff highlighted the school's personalized education program (PEP), collegiate dual‑enrollment offerings and an early‑college pilot with Sierra College. "Students from outside the area are enrolling and increased enrollment brings ADA funding," presenters said, noting marketing efforts and pilot outreach at local movie theaters.
The board heard that Maidu reported strong student satisfaction on a recent survey — "85.4% of the 41 students that responded are satisfied with their decision," a presenter said — and emphasized meetups, dual‑enrollment pathways and expanded CTE and collegiate courses. Staff credited teachers, site leaders and attorney Bill Schultz with compiling the charter renewal packet.
Trustees moved to approve Resolution No. 12 25–26 to renew the charter for the virtual academy; Trustee Lake moved and Trustee Duncan seconded the motion. A roll‑call vote recorded the student board member and Trustees Jeffries, Spade, Duncan and Lake as voting yes. The resolution carried unanimously.
The board thanked Maidu staff and parents in the room and congratulated the school on the successful renewal. The charter renewal will be in effect for the term specified in the approved resolution and the district will continue monitoring implementation and the early‑college pilot with Sierra College.
Next steps: The charter renewal document will be filed consistent with district and county procedures; staff said they will continue marketing and dual‑enrollment expansion aligned to the renewal plan.
