The Town of Wayne Select Board voted to allow the fire department to transport Santa to the tree lighting as part of the Wayne Holiday Stroll and approved a $42,356.40 transfer from the fire department equipment reserve to buy radio equipment and replacement self‑contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) air bottles.

Fire Chief Taylor asked the board for specific verbiage to allow firefighters to use town equipment for transporting Santa and to authorize the fund transfer. Board members moved the Santa transport motion and the vote passed without opposition.

Chief Taylor said roughly $5,000 of the requested $42,356.40 is for radio upgrades and the larger portion will buy lighter, higher‑pressure air bottles (upgrading from older 2,200‑psi/30‑minute bottles to newer 4,500‑psi, lighter bottles) to reduce firefighter fatigue and improve safety. The board discussed reserve balances and concluded the transfer left adequate short‑term funds for other needs; the motion to transfer the funds carried 4‑0.

No amendments or alternatives were proposed. The board’s votes were recorded as carried by unanimous voice vote.
