The Select Board appointed Andrew Goral on Nov. 18 to serve the remainder of the RSU 38 school board term vacated by Tom Wells. Goral, a Wayne resident who described himself as a parent of a kindergartener and a software engineer with experience on town boards and committees, was one of three candidates considered. Steve Saunders, a retired educator, and Cheryl Lang, a retired educator and former state ESEA director (not present), were also discussed.

Board members and members of the public emphasized the value of current parental involvement and local experience in the district; public commenters said they favored candidates who are parents or active in the schools. One board member moved to appoint Goral; the motion carried 4‑0. Goral will serve until the end of the unexpired term in June 2027, after which the seat will be filled by election as scheduled.

The board did not take additional action beyond the formal appointment and scheduling the candidate’s seat to continue through the remainder of the term.
