The Committee on Housing, Homelessness and Parks on Nov. 18 reported out the mayor’s nominee for Director of Housing and Land Management, identifying several priorities the council expects the new director to address.

The chair introduced the nomination of Kevin d’Auge (transcript includes a variation of his name as 'Kevin Auger'), who said he was honored by the opportunity and looked forward to working with the city on housing goals. During committee discussion, Council Member Kiaaina expressed support and asked the nominee to review a Department of Hawaiian Home Lands site at Kalaheo Hill that has $20 million in city infrastructure funding earmarked in the budget.

Kiaaina also suggested the Clean Water and Natural Lands Fund — which the councilmember said has a reported surplus of approximately $37 million and annual receipts of about $8–9 million — could be considered for expanded uses such as historic preservation, and asked staff to review the proposal. The nominee acknowledged the item.

Angela Melody Young, testifying for CARES, voiced support for the nominee, citing his housing knowledge and past collaboration with neighborhoods and faith-based outreach.

With no objections, Resolution 25-206 was reported out for adoption and will move to the council floor.
