Pike County Fiscal Court approved two capital purchases on motions that passed unanimously: retrofitting four county Kenworth trucks with plows and salter boxes to support winter operations, and the purchase of a front (end) loader for the maintenance garage.
Road department vendor quotes were presented by Greg, who said the Sourcewell/Baker Equipment quote would outfit each Kenworth for $26,200, a total of about $104,800 for four trucks. "I can chew all 4 of these trucks up for $26,200 a truck," Greg said, explaining the work would let the county use existing trucks for snow removal and salting.
Greg also recommended buying an end loader. He presented two vendor options: a John Deere 444P (2.5‑yard bucket, 72‑inch forks) and a Caterpillar 920. After negotiations, Greg said Boyd Equipment offered an in‑stock machine with extended service and warranty for a total price of $190,375.14, including a parts-and-service credit. He told the court the loader was already on the county capital plan and could be delivered quickly.
Commissioner Atkins moved to purchase the plow/salter retrofits and the loader and to authorize contract signing; Commissioner Scott seconded both motions. The clerk recorded all members present voting yes.
No amendments to the purchases were proposed in the meeting. The court did not discuss financing details in depth beyond noting the purchases are in the county capital plan.
