Pike County Fiscal Court accepted treasurer's business and acknowledged three personnel hires during the meeting.
The treasurer presented the sheriff and clerk’s 25/50 report for October showing $122,196.42 to be remitted to the county’s LGDF recaptured account; Commissioner Lewis moved to approve the treasurer’s business and the motion passed unanimously.
The court then acknowledged the hiring of Columbus Dwayne Harms (contract finisher, Special Crew 5A, effective 11/10/25), Zachary Taylor Hager (carpenter, Public Works 5A, effective 11/17/25), and Trey Allen Morris (floodplain coordinator trainee, 3A, effective 11/19/25). Commissioner Atkins moved to acknowledge the hires; the clerk recorded a unanimous vote in favor.
During department reports a road or maintenance staff member urged a pay‑grade increase for an operator position (suggested raising the position from grade 3 to 4) to help retain qualified staff; Judge Jones recommended Frankie run budget numbers and cautioned the court about broader payroll impacts. No formal action on pay changes was taken.
Commissioners also discussed emergency response tools. A commissioner described using an infrared drone from Hazard at about 1 a.m. to assist in tracking a wounded deer and suggested drone capability could be useful for locating lost children; Judge Jones confirmed the county owns drones and that equipment has been shared with neighboring counties for search situations.
Judge Jones additionally said he secured approximately $4.7 million in state support for a planned 6–7 year landfill expansion and estimated Pike County’s contribution would not exceed $1 million; the court did not undertake any formal appropriation at the meeting. The judge reminded commissioners of an upcoming public meeting with the power company at the library.
