Clifton Heights Borough Council approved a series of routine municipal actions including the purchase of a refurbished ladder unit for maintenance work and acceptance of engineering reports that move several projects forward.
Manager’s request and vote: The manager described a vendor offer to refurbish a ladder unit for $30,000 to support maintenance of veterans’ flags installed throughout town under a partnership with the VFW. The council moved to approve purchase of the refurbished ladder unit for $30,000 with travel expenses not to exceed $2,000; the motion passed on a roll-call that recorded council members voting in favor.
Engineer recommendations: The borough engineer reported the 2025 road program is complete, and that the pickleball court construction is nearly finished with painting, lighting, and net installation outstanding. The engineer said the contractor submitted a payment request and the engineer forwarded a recommendation to release 90% of those funds in the amount of $210,897. The engineer also reported demolition of 32 Mill Street was complete and an award recommendation will be presented to council at the December meeting; he noted the demolition work is funded with CDBG dollars and not from the general fund.
Why it matters: The ladder unit purchase is intended to allow borough personnel to maintain community flags without delays caused by outside contractor availability. The engineer’s payment recommendation moves the pickleball project closer to final completion and frees most contractor funds; the demolition and forthcoming award recommendation advance a CDBG-funded property project.
Next steps and oversight: The ladder unit purchase was approved and will be procured; the engineer will present award recommendations for 32 Mill Street at the December council meeting. The council did not discuss additional funding sources beyond the engineer’s note that the demolition is CDBG-funded.
