Clerk Scott Borley reported that the Kalamazoo County Board of Canvassers certified the November election and presented vote totals: Jacqueline Slaby (4,588), Stephanie Hoffman (4,914), Drew Duncan (5,820) — who by charter designation will serve as vice mayor — and David Anderson (6,473), elected mayor.
After certification, the commission briefly recessed for a pinning ceremony. Each newly elected official came forward to be pinned by a person of their choosing, then repeated the constitutional oath administered by the clerk and took seats at the dais as the newly constituted 56th City Commission. Clerk Borley guided the oath and congratulated each official as they were seated.
The swearing-in included family members and presenters for each official; Drew Duncan was noted as vice mayor by charter designation. The commission then resumed ceremonial business with an invocation and pledge of allegiance before moving on to a year-end report and public comment.
The certification and oath were procedural steps required by charter and by the county canvass process and did not include legislative votes.
