The Lake County Board on Dec. 1 approved a resolution to amend a 2001 underground utilities district for the South Main Street and Soda Bay Road corridor to allow two exceptions.

Public Works Director Lars Ewing told the board staff had identified two locations where burying overhead utilities would create significant complications: one area with cultural concerns and another where existing development and infrastructure would require a right-of-way alteration that would delay the project. He said the amendment and an accompanying exhibit identify those locations and that the changes are in the county and public interest.

A supervisor offered the resolution and roll call votes were recorded in the affirmative; the resolution passed.

Next steps: Staff will proceed with the corridor improvement project subject to the adopted exceptions and related right-of-way work.
