Manager Welker told the Board the Merit Commission — which reviews appeals when classified employees are suspended without pay, involuntarily demoted, or terminated — had not met in several years but had served well when needed. He recommended reappointing Nel Karnes, Von Grant and Patrick O'Donnell to new four‑year terms.

"They've done a very good job," Welker said of the commission members. Supervisor Howard moved to reappoint the three individuals, a motion that received a second and carried by voice vote.

The Merit Commission members are volunteers drawn from the community; the board noted the action was primarily housekeeping to keep terms current so the panel is available should disciplinary appeals arise.
