A 15‑year‑old high school student, Anish Senthel, representing the American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative (ALSI), urged the Manvel City Council on Nov. 17 to adopt a proclamation and amplify local awareness of lung‑cancer screening.

Senthel described ALSI as a national nonprofit with more than 130 chapters and told the council the organization has held about 1,200 awareness events and engaged in 70,000 conversations to date. "Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer related death in the United States," he said during his presentation, noting that many cases are diagnosed at a distant stage and that low‑dose CT screening can reduce lung cancer deaths by about 20%.

City leaders welcomed the presentation, praised Senthel for traveling to Manvel, and arranged to issue a proclamation and photograph after the meeting. The mayor asked follow‑up questions about Senthel’s age and thanked him for the presentation.
