The Police & Fire Commission heard that the Port Washington Firefighters Association organized two recent food drives, including a drive-up event and a Saturday collection at the Piggly Wiggly on the city's north side, that gathered more than a half ton of food, roughly 200 pounds of clothing and more than $1,000 in cash for the local food pantry.

Fire Chief Joe said the events were assembled quickly after a request from the food pantry and were well received. "Over those 2 days, we collected more than a half ton of food, 200 pounds of clothing, and more than a thousand dollars in cash that'll all be going to the food pantry," he said.

Commissioners thanked the firefighters for organizing the drive and noted community appreciation for the donations.
