At the start of the Nov. 17 meeting the council, led by Frank Lee (HR manager), recognized Sergeant Ryan Bates for 25 years with the Port Hueneme Police Department. Staff and multiple councilmembers praised Bates’ leadership of the traffic unit, work on collision investigations and the department’s new UAS/drone capability. Members noted Bates’ role in traffic enforcement, parking improvements and investigative uses of drones that aided recent arrests.

The recognition included council remarks, a short biographical summary and congratulations from colleagues and residents. The council took no action beyond the honorary recognition.
