The Birmingham City Commission voted Nov. 17 to adopt a resolution approving the city’s 2026 application for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds administered through Oakland County.
Finance Director Mary Chavez told the commission that the city’s planning allocation from Oakland County is "a little over $34,000" for the coming program year and emphasized the county’s updated guidelines that do not guarantee funding. Under county rules the city may allocate funds only to two activities; staff proposed, and the commission approved, the following allocations: $5,107 for public yard services and $28,945 to remove architectural barriers at Museum Park, for a total of $34,052.
The resolution authorizes the city manager to sign the application, conflict‑of‑interest certification, affidavit of compliance and any subrecipient agreements required by Oakland County.
The commission took the motion and approved it on roll call; no opposing votes were recorded in the meeting minutes.
