Council clerk delivered a brief 2025 annual report listing council activity, staffing changes and legislative totals for the year. The clerk reported 39 meetings on 30 nights, 64 pieces of legislation considered and 55 passed (44 ordinances and 11 resolutions). The clerk said eight pieces of legislation remain on the docket, with seven expected to pass at this meeting.
The meeting included ceremonial items: the council presented Councilwoman Stephanie Warren with a bronze gavel award recognizing 13 years of service and her role as the first woman to discharge the duties of council president. The clerk read Warren’s service highlights, including committee leadership and community involvement.
Administration announced the swearing in of full-time firefighter Abdul Catchings, who previously served part time with the department. The director of administration also noted the new playground equipment installation at Price (park) and the hire of a new community and economic development specialist, Tricia Ostertag.
During public comment Pat Patterson of Cuyahoga Falls used his five minutes to invite residents to a community walk and praised recent development activity in the North End. A council member provided a detailed update on the North Canton Cares Pantry, noting its new location, expanded service days and 2024 impact: more than 2,800 families served, 4,200 volunteer hours and over 50,000 pounds of food distributed.
The council closed the meeting by scheduling the organizational meeting for the 2026 legislative session on Dec. 1 and adjourning.
