Fortuna’s City Council approved the nine-item consent calendar on November 17, which included standard departmental reports and a memorandum of understanding (side letter) between the City of Fortuna and the Fortuna Police Employees Association (FPEA).
Justin Ferrer, president of the FPEA, addressed the council during public comment on the consent calendar and thanked city staff, the city manager, and the council for their work on the side letter. "This will get us into a competitive range with all the other agencies," Ferrer said, adding the agreement should help the city retain officers.
Mayor Johnson and the council noted necessary recusals and abstentions: Mayor Pro Tem Trent indicated he would abstain from item I, and Councilmember Connolly recused himself from that item. The remainder of the consent calendar passed as moved and seconded.
The consent calendar included routine items (minutes, administrative and department monthly reports) in addition to the FPEA side letter; no controversial public comment was recorded for the other consent items.
