The Danbury School District Board of Education on Nov. 12 recognized a $5,000 donation earmarked for student-led projects at Roger Park and heard a school presentation from Broadway High School Principal Andrew Lambo.
Chair called Brian Ditich to the podium to highlight the donation and thanked a long-time donor (transcribed as Shirley/Sheila) whose past giving has supported Roger Park programs, including an amount referenced in the meeting of approximately $40,000 over time. The chair said the $5,000 gift will support student-driven initiatives such as outdoor fence artwork and other projects led by students.
Principal Andrew Lambo described Broadway’s focus on whole-child development — academic, social and emotional — and cited a school goal for December that "70% of our students will exceed typical growth in reading or math," up from figures cited in the meeting (~42% and ~37%). He also outlined restorative practices and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports), extracurricular clubs including robotics and arts, and partnerships with a tutoring/enrichment program (transcribed as "Excel"). "Broadway High School is better than ever," Lambo said, thanking staff and cabinet members for improving school climate.
A student representative from the Alternative Center for Excellence reported that 18 students visited an art museum as an enrichment activity and invited the board to the ACE annual Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 25 from 11 a.m. to noon, noting partnerships with the ABET culinary program and community donors.
