The Taos County Commission met on Wednesday, Nov. 12, and voted unanimously to approve the canvass of the Nov. 7, 2025 local election after County Clerk Valerie Montoya read the countywide results.

The canvass formally recorded results for municipal races, school boards, and several local ballot questions. County Clerk Valerie Montoya read the tallies into the public record and concluded, "And that concludes the totals for the election that took place." The commission then moved and took a roll-call vote to approve the canvass as presented.

Why it matters: The canvass is the formal step by which the county records and certifies the counts from the Nov. 7 election so the results can be finalized and processed according to county and state procedures.

What was announced: Montoya read detailed totals for dozens of local contests. Examples read into the record include Daniel R. Veroni with 901 votes in a Taos municipal race, Marietta S. Fambro with 607 votes, and several other council and municipal totals. The clerk also announced results for a Taos Municipal School District general obligation bond (3,649 yes; 1,298 no) and multiple school capital-tax and special-district measures. The clerk stated some figures and many individual candidate totals were entered into the official canvass materials provided to the commission.

The vote: Following the clerk's presentation, a commissioner moved to approve the canvass as presented by County Clerk Valerie Montoya; the motion was seconded, and the commission approved it by roll call. Commissioners recorded as voting yes were Commissioner Vigil, Commissioner Romero, Commissioner Brush, Vice Chair Romero, and Chair Mascarenas.

Other actions: The commission also approved routine items including the Oct. 7, Oct. 14 (special meeting), and Oct. 21 meeting minutes; it approved the consent agenda (items 9A–9I); and it adjourned. No members of the public spoke during the public comment period.

What happens next: With the canvass approved, the county's official election documentation for Nov. 7 will be entered into the record and processed consistent with county practice. The commission's next steps were not specified during this special meeting.
