The Burke County Board of Commissioners voted Nov. 17 to rezone a parcel at 2893 US‑70 in Connelly Springs from Residential‑2 to General Business and to update the future land‑use map accordingly.

Planner Patrick Dickinson presented ZMA 2025‑06 on behalf of applicant Country Squire Leasing LLC. Dickinson said the parcel (with an existing tractor‑trailer repair structure) sits in a mixed‑use corridor on US‑70 and that staff found the request reasonable in the public interest despite a difference with the parcel's current future land‑use designation. "This request is reasonable and in the public interest as it aligns with the surrounding commercial and mixed use character of US 70," Dickinson said.

Chair opened the public hearing; no members of the public spoke. Commissioner Barriere moved to adopt ordinance no. 2025‑12 to rezone the parcel and adjust the future land‑use map; the motion passed by voice/hand vote 5‑0.

The ordinance updates the parcel's classification to support commercial uses allowed in General Business (most retail, service and many warehouse/light industrial uses), although certain intensive uses would still require special permits under the zoning ordinance. The board did not attach additional conditions to the approval and no appeals or variances were discussed at the meeting.

The county planner noted the planning board had voted 6‑0 in favor of the request at its September 25 hearing and that no public comment had been received by the department.
