Doña Ana County commissioners convened as the county board of canvassing on Nov. 14 and voted to certify the Nov. 4, 2025 regular local election results.

County Clerk Lopez Askin told commissioners the office processed substantial absentee and early‑voting returns this year, reporting almost 4,000 absentee ballots, more than 8,200 early votes and roughly 14,400 election‑day ballots. She said the state’s new permanent absentee list helped drive higher absentee participation and described the absentee processing steps—verification of the outer envelope, careful opening and reconciliation—and the legally required pause of absentee board work at 11 p.m., with processing resumed the next morning.

“I’m here to ask for the certification, in your role as the canvassing board for this regular local election,” Lopez Askin said, noting that the county’s audit process will randomly pick precincts for a post‑election system check before the Secretary of State issues a certificate later in the month.

Commissioners asked about turnout increases in raw numbers and thanked election officials and communications staff for outreach. After hearing no public comment, the board conducted a roll‑call vote and certified the results; the canvassing board then adjourned at 1:27 p.m.

The certification sends Doña Ana County’s returns to the New Mexico Secretary of State’s office, which will complete a statewide review and the county’s post‑election audit as required under state law.
