The Planning & Zoning Commission on Nov. 13 approved a sign package to rebrand the former Circle K at 3575 Main Street to Marathon fuel branding, subject to five staff conditions.
Planner Seth explained the proposal includes canopy graphics, monument signage with larger address numbers, and blade/informational signs contained to the site. Staff recommended conditions: remove the expired Alpha Convenience banner before installing other signs; contain canopy signage to the elevation and use quarter‑inch push‑through graphics; keep branded canopy striping non‑illuminated; restore address numbers on the ground sign so they are readable from Main Street; and obtain sign permits prior to installation. Staff also noted an open code enforcement matter concerning the banner and said the city could pursue municipal court if the banner is not removed.
Applicant John Brandt (representing PAP Oil and Marathon) told the commission the property owner will remove the expired banner promptly, clean landscaping hiding the address, and install the ordered canopy panels once city permits are in hand. Commissioners discussed canopy overhang size, historical consistency with prior approvals, and the option to impose a timeline for completing street‑facing sign repairs; staff confirmed they are actively pursuing compliance through code enforcement and that permits are required before installation.
The motion to approve PZ‑25‑66 with the five staff conditions passed unanimously on a 7–0 roll call.
