BERRIEN COUNTY — The Berrien County Board of Commissioners voted to adopt a resolution supporting MobileCAD, a computer-aided dispatch system intended to modernize information-sharing among police and fire agencies.

Commissioner Kerns moved to adopt the MobileCAD resolution and Commissioner Volraff supported the motion. Chief Wes Migoski of Coloma Township told the board the system “will get officers to places quicker” and allow dispatchers to see officer locations via GPS, which he said is especially valuable during large-scale calls and incidents when radio traffic is heavy.

“Communication will be enhanced,” Chief Migoski said, adding that MobileCAD could reduce burdens on dispatchers and help locate officers in foot chases or areas with poor radio contact.

Why it matters: County chiefs and law-enforcement staff said MobileCAD would bring the county “to the next generation” of dispatch capabilities already used in many parts of the state. Commissioners voted by roll call to adopt the resolution.

Implementation notes: The resolution’s adoption starts the county’s formal support for MobileCAD, but implementation will require vendor selection, funding finalization and interagency agreements. County staff reported the board expects follow-up from Emergency Services/Dispatch on contracting and rollout plans.

The board adopted the resolution by roll-call. Commissioners who answered in the affirmative during the recorded roll call included Harrison, Hinkleman, Tyler, Wurfel, Yarborough, Curran and Freeling.
