The Glens Falls Local Development Corporation created an ad hoc committee to develop a three- to five-year budget and draft operating contracts for a proposed downtown market and commercial kitchen complex.
LDC members said the corporation has signed a 10-year lease for the facility and is in active discussions with Taste New York and Cornell Cooperative Extension about operating the commercial kitchen and market. An LDC presenter summarized the plan: two commercial kitchens (one rentable and one teaching/mobile kitchen), a market space to promote local producers and a wayfinding and marketing program to attract customers from the region.
The LDC asked for volunteers to staff an ad hoc budget committee and recorded volunteers as Judy, Denise and Mary, with accountant Mark Toomey assisting. The board set a target to have contracts and a committee budget recommendation for the December meeting and said the goal is to reach break-even within three years, with a planning horizon of three to five years.
What’s next: the ad hoc committee will meet with staff and Mark Toomey to refine budget numbers, pursue a possible operating agreement with Cornell Cooperative Extension and return contract recommendations to the full board in December; the LDC aims to open the facility by the first quarter of 2026.
