The Village of Waukesha Planning Commission and Village Board on Nov. 14 approved a site‑plan amendment to regularize two 23‑foot directional light poles installed by Lifford Lumber at South 30 West Sunset Drive.

Staff told commissioners the poles sit about 5 feet from the north property line and are cut‑off fixtures designed to direct light downward. "They installed them without approval. Now they're asking for permission for those," staff said during the presentation. Staff noted the village code limits light pole mounting heights at 28 feet for cut‑off fixtures and sets a maximum of 3 foot‑candles at the property line; the applicant did not submit a photometric plan because the installation is in an industrial area adjacent to the City of Waukesha and staff judged light spillover unlikely.

Commissioners complimented the business improvements and reported no complaints from nearby properties. The Planning Commission moved to recommend approval; the Village Board accepted the recommendation and approved the amendment by voice vote.

Next steps: staff will include the standard site‑plan conditions outlined in the staff report and monitor compliance with any required permits.
