At its Nov. 12 meeting the Wyoming Valley West School District board recognized seniors of the month, promoted student events and approved routine staff items, including an assistant director nomination noted by the special-education chair.
Student representatives reported seniors of the month and said those students will be honored at a faculty luncheon and featured in local media and on the high-school website. The high school confirmed an expanded dual-enrollment offering with Lackawanna College (26 credits for 2025'26), a virtual career day in partnership with the Hospital and Health System Association of Pennsylvania, and the fall drama production, The Miracle Worker, in the Munzing Wing For The Arts.
The student council will run the annual food drive with Plymouth Rotary and Aramark from Nov. 3 to Dec. 12 and the Red Cross will host a blood drive Dec. 3 at the high school. Athletic committee members reminded families that winter sports begin Friday and that required physicals and paperwork must be on file for student-athletes to practice.
Special-education committee Chair Mister Hardwick highlighted new autistic and life-skills classrooms and said the agenda included a vote on appointing Darlene Riley as assistant director; the board approved staff-recommended items by roll call, which included the staff items presented that evening.
The board also thanked outgoing members and congratulated district achievements such as orchestra competition success and recent district championships.
The board's reorganization meeting is scheduled for Dec. 3 at 7 p.m., and the next regular meeting is Dec. 10 at 7 p.m.
