Desert Sunrise High School teachers presented a classroom spotlight demonstrating how career and technical education (CTE) classes integrate math and English language-arts standards to support college and career readiness.

Mr. Verdugo introduced the presentation and Miss Jen Celina, the hospitality-management teacher, explained the classroom's common formative assessment (CFA) practice and data-driven instruction. Celina said the CFA given Oct. 17 initially showed "91 percent of my students got a 100% on their CFA," and after reteach the outcome rose to 95% — a result she used to illustrate the value of iterative instruction and collaboration with math and ELA PLTs.

The presenters described the lesson's real-world emphasis, including probability and statistics applied to market research and finance-seal work for the diploma. The district thanked the teachers and administrators involved and said CTE program growth supports both student engagement and district letter-grade indicators.

The board praised the classroom approach and asked how the model would scale to other CTE areas; presenters said they plan targeted professional development and stronger PLT collaboration to expand similar strategies.
